Dear Mr Allan
You may be aware that the electronic orthopaedic logbook is to be launched at the BOA annual congress 2003 in Birmingham on 17 September 2003. Data upload from this (or a comparable) logbook to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) website is to become a compulsory requirement for all orthopaedic SpRs from 1st October 2003. The BOA Orthopaedic Logbook/Portfolio is available for download at: www.med-it.co.uk/logbooks
The software development at the RCSEd will allow Trainees, Programme Directors and the SAC in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery to monitor the progress of the surgical exposure and practical surgical training of UK trainees and will also allow the performance of individual trainers to be monitored. There will be different levels of access to this information with yourself as Programme Director being given access to the information about all the trainees and trainers in your "Region".
You can log onto the secure website to view the data at: https:// www.rcsed.ac.uk/eloqbook/director You will be asked for a:
Immediately after logging onto the website please change your password to a personal confidential password of your choosing. This website is now available for you to access but obviously is in its early stages of development. Within 6 months we will be providing on-line reports for Trainees, Trainers and Training Directors and there is already an opportunity for you to tell us what you would like to have in these reports.
We would be very grateful for your support for the logbook over the next few weeks. Obviously the data available to you will depend upon the early uptake of the software by trainees in your deanery.
