Details of the local ARCP process
In the light of the last two years running this new process in the west of Scotland, I thought it would be helpful to publish some notes and guidance on how the procedure runs locally. The aim of this is to help you avoid an outcome 5 (insufficient evidence) and also to help the committee in the decision-making process.
The process starts in June of each year and will review information from the 2 previous posts (i.e. those of starting in the August and February prior to the assessment)
The following information will be asked for from each post:
An educational supervisors structured report (see below)
An old (yellow) RITA trainee assessment form
An old (Green) RITA trainee post assessment form
A consolidation of your logbook from that post
Copies of the workplace-based assessments (PBA's, DOPS, CBD, miniCEX) undertaken in the post
A consolidation sheet for the PBA's undertaken
In addition, for the whole year you should supply:
A 360° appraisal (miniPAT)
Evidence of having completed the PMETB trainee survey
The educational supervisors structured report
This is one of the most important documents of the ARCP process. To facilitate the completion of this in as much detail as possible I have revised the template from the gold guide (a copy of which can be downloaded below), and I have included (also available for download below) a completed sample.
It is essential:
Local template of educational supervisors structured report
Sample of the local eductional supervisors structure report - completed
Please note the details in this report:
Meetings
The first part of the ARCP process is a review of the paperwork. This meeting takes place in the deanery in mid June.
The second stage of the process involves interviewing a selection of trainees. Hopefully this will simply be a random selection of trainees to quality assure the paper-based process. If however there is a likelihood of an outcome other than outcome 1, (usually outcome 5) you will definitely be asked to attend for interview, but you will be informed beforehand if this is not random. These interviews will generally take place in the 3rd week of July
